Vice President, Transaction Systems
Mr. Spence is the Vice President of Transaction Systems at Lumidigm, Inc. A pioneer in the commercialization of biometrics, Mr. Spence has been at the forefront of biometric technology and its application since 1991. Today, he leads the Lumidigm business unit that applies patented multispectral fingerprint technology to transactional systems in markets such as physical access control and time & attendance.
Mr. Spence first became involved with biometrics at Recognition Systems (now Ingersoll Rand), the world’s largest manufacturer of hand geometry biometric products. His experience also includes the development of fingerprint markets while at Identix (now L-1 Identity Solutions). In roles such as VP of Business Development, VP of Marketing, and General Manager, Mr. Spence has driven the expansion of the commercial markets for biometric products while maintaining a focused business discipline, resulting in some of the industry’s most profitable biometric products and companies. Mr. Spence is a widely published author of articles describing the use of biometrics in access control and time & attendance applications. Publications include articles in Security Technology and Design, PAYTECH Magazine, Security Distribution and Marketing, Security Products, Business Solutions, and several international journals.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the International Biometric Industry Association (IBIA), Mr. Spence is the Vice Chairman of the Security Industry Association’s Biometric Subcommittee. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California.
