U.S. Commercial Service focuses attention on Lumidigm's business successes in China and East Asia

U.S. Commercial Service focuses attention on New Mexico biometric company’s business successes in China and East Asia

Santa Fe, New Mexico — August 17, 2010 — Lumidigm, Inc., the New Mexico biometrics company, received an Export Achievement Certificate on August 5, 2010 from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Presented by Senator Jeff Bingaman (N.M.) via video, the award recognizes Lumidigm for its accomplishments in the global marketplace. Lumidigm was nominated for this award by Sandra Necessary, U.S. Commercial Service Santa Fe Director, to draw attention to Lumidigm’s successes in China and East Asia.

“Expanding into markets around the globe is one sure way to grow New Mexico’s economy,” Senator Bingaman said. “I congratulate Lumidigm on its successful efforts to export into Asia. This is the kind of success story that can — and should — be unfolding at companies across our state.”

Lumidigm, based in Albuquerque, develops and manufactures fingerprint sensors that use multispectral imaging to capture superior images quickly, on all people, in all environmental conditions. Lumidigm’s sensors can be integrated into any solution that requires identity management in the real world.

According to Sandra Necessary, Director of the U.S. Commercial Service in Santa Fe, the company utilized export counseling and other assistance as it overcame the potentially difficult challenge of selling into China, gained familiarity with the way business is conducted there and determined the right pricing for its products in the Chinese market. As a result, Necessary says Lumidigm “achieved a foothold that led to a relatively high profile in East Asia in just three years.”

“Export sales have enabled our company to weather the economy much better than if we had been selling only domestically,” said Seth Miller, Director of Business Development at Lumidigm. “Many of the Asia-Pacific countries have been early adopters of biometric technologies so from the start they were markets we wanted to target.”

Company representatives participated in a trade mission to Hong Kong and Taiwan organized by the New Mexico Office of International Trade. During that mission they received counseling and guidance from the U.S. Commercial Service office in Taiwan, as well as the New Mexico Trade Representative in Taipei, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Subsequent trips to the region were supported by an organization recommended by the U.S. Commercial Services.

“The U.S. Commercial Service and the New Mexico Office of International Trade were important resources for us as we sought partners in the region, saving us valuable time and resources,” said Miller.

Today, Lumidigm has relationships with several regional integration partners including the two largest Chinese manufacturers of biometric access control and time & attendance solutions. Lumidigm’s presence in the region has been bolstered by a high-profile deployment in the largest biometric border security project in the region.

“We’ve been pleased to be able to open some doors for Lumidigm and facilitate their search for the right partners in the region,” said Necessary. “Lumidigm’s export success is good for New Mexico and good for the nation.”

Lumidigm’s new biometric fingerprint reader Mercury incorporates robust and reliable, multispectral imaging into a new form factor that supports speedy transactions with single-touch performance.

Lumidigm expands fingerprint sensor offerings with Mercury Series

Albuquerque, New Mexico — April 27, 2010 — Lumidigm Inc., the multispectral imaging biometrics company, today introduces the Mercury Series fingerprint sensors. Compact and cost-effective, Mercury sensors join the highly successful Lumidigm Venus sensors in a product portfolio that provides award-winning multispectral imaging capabilities to fingerprint applications worldwide.

Multispectral imaging from Lumidigm is a biometric technology that virtually eliminates common real world performance problems experienced with conventional fingerprint sensors. Robust and reliable, multispectral imaging allows Lumidigm sensors to capture superior images quickly, on all people, in all environmental conditions. The Mercury sensors incorporate this field-proven technology into a reliable new platform with a new form factor that supports speedy transactions with single-touch performance.

“Mercury represents an important breakthrough in our ability to deliver the multispectral imaging value proposition to more customers, more applications and more markets,” said Phil Scarfo, Lumidigm’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Adding the Mercury Series to our product offerings greatly enhances our ability to address applications where a smaller form factor, lower power requirements and rapid transaction rates are most important.”

Lumidigm Mercury sensors return high-contrast 500 dpi fingerprint images in real world environments. Mercury offers both USB and RS-232 connectivity which makes integration into existing systems easy. To meet any application requirement, the Lumidigm Mercury Series has multiple modes of operation including image output, template output, verification (1:1) and identification (1:N). The I:N feature is fully interoperable with 1:1 ANSI 378 standard templates. This powerful functionality is provided to Lumidigm Mercury customers at no additional cost.

Two Mercury fingerprint sensors are currently available. The M300 is an easy-to-integrate OEM module designed for high-performance, high-throughput applications. The M301 is an elegant desktop sensor that is perfect for shared workstation applications. Both sensors support industry interoperability standards including MINEX, ANSI 378 and ANSI 381.

“Our customers are already sold on the unique benefits of Lumidigm’s technology and don’t want to compromise on biometric performance, so we are thrilled to offer them Mercury and expand they ways they can use multispectral imaging,” said Scarfo. “Mercury allows us to target applications that need a flexible form factor, such as time and attendance terminals, enterprise single sign on (ESSO) systems, point of sale applications, mobile terminals, and medical devices.”

A full development kit, including a Mercury sensor, software development kit and integration documentation, is available from Lumidigm.

New in 2010, Lumidigm’s Mercury fingerprint platform incorporates the award-winning multispectral imaging technology into a new, flexible form factor.

The new Mercury desktop sensor is a stand-alone biometrics reader that can easily be attached to a host PC or intelligent controller via a standard USB cable. This device utilizes the same multispectral imaging technology deployed in our Mercury OEM sensor modules and is able to deliver the same world-class performance.

The Mercury reader can be configured to support several modes of operation. Device installation and operation is simple and easy. Once connected, high-quality 500 dpi images or templates can be swiftly and consistently delivered to the host PC or controller. Both enrollment and user authentication can be done on the very same device.

Because of the highly integrated design and advanced architecture, both the speed and biometrics accuracy of this device is unmatched in the industry today. Mercury data capture is incredibly fast and accurate. In most cases a simple “tap” of the finger is sufficient to securely authenticate a user and ensure biometric accuracy.

Prior to its commercial release, Mercury was field proven and tested in some of the most demanding environments by some of the most demanding users. In all cases, Mercury has consistently shown a clear superiority in both image quality and matching accuracy. Like all other multispectral imaging products from Lumidigm, our patented biometric data collection makes Mercury the very best choice for those environments where the “less than perfect” performance and solutions provided by conventional technologies are simply not good enough.

Lumidigm Mercury OEM modules were built for easy integration into applications with tight size and speed requirements, such as time and attendance terminals, enterprise single sign on (ESSO) systems, point of sale applications, mobile terminals, and medical devices.

Mercury OEM fingerprint sensor modules extend the power and reach of our award-winning multispectral imaging technology to a whole new set of markets, applications, channel partners and users. Like all other multispectral imaging products from Lumidigm, Mercury is designed for those who need a biometric technology or solution that simply works where other competitive alternatives often fail.

Mercury continues Lumidigm’s field-proven tradition of consistently outperforming all other competitor products in its class. In addition to delivering world-class biometrics performance, Mercury’s design enables multispectral imaging products to be more easily integrated into a growing set of devices and/or systems.

The core benefit of Lumidigm’s multispectral technology is that it virtually eliminates common real world problems experienced by conventional fingerprint sensors. Mercury’s smaller and more flexible form factor is the more obvious visible difference from our high-end Venus line of products. What is not so obvious perhaps is, despite its size, the new Mercury Series sensor module is still quite powerful and very feature rich.

Mercury OEM sensor modules support multiple modes of operation. This new functionality is a core component of the product’s design and is built-in to the Mercury product architecture. This means more flexibility and a variety of choices for integrators. Mercury devices can be configured to deliver high-quality images or ANSI-378 standard templates. Mercury can also be designed into either verification (1:1) or Identification (1:N) applications. All of this enhanced functionality is built into every OEM module. It is a standard, no-cost capability that is packaged into this offering.

Mercury’s highly integrated and advanced architecture makes it both extremely accurate and very fast. With Mercury, we once again demonstrate that Lumidigm products are able to deliver superior and unmatched biometrics performance without compromise.
