href="http://www.benchmarkmagazine.com/" target="_blank">Benchmark Magazine, after conducting a competitive test of fingerprint readers, concluded, “use of the MSI technology, and the consistency with which it performed in conditions that would see other units simply fail really does set the [Lumidigm] technology apart from its peers.”

The May 2012 article in the British journal begins, “One of the biggest issues with biometrics-based fingerprint readers is that many models will struggle to obtain a clear and usable scan if the digit being presented is damp, dirty or damaged. This is because most sensors rely on an optical scan only. However, multispectral imaging (MSI) [from Lumidigm] can provide a more robust solution.”

Lumidigm partner Ievo™ submitted its Ultimate™ reader with the Lumidigm sensor for the Benchmark test. Ievo Managing Director Shaun Oakes reports, “Benchmark is known for its rigorous testing methods and independent reviews. We welcomed the opportunity to show what the superior Lumidigm technology brings to our fingerprint reader and to our customers.”

“This review verifies for many people what we already knew from field experience,” asserts Lumidigm Vice President, Transaction Systems Bill Spence. “Now, independent testing confirms the superior fingerprint reading capabilities that Lumidigm technology brings to any application. Customers expect better performance now and Lumidigm is providing it.”

A video of the reviewed product, available at www.lumidigm.com/video-fingerprint-reader-put-to-the-test/, demonstrates the fingerprint reader being subjected to various real world conditions, including damp and wet, dry and dirty. Lumidigm technology extracts unique fingerprint characteristics from both the surface and subsurface of the skin, allowing results that are more consistent, more inclusive and more tamper resistant than conventional technologies.

About Benchmark

Benchmark is a monthly publication dedicated to security technology. The only publication of its type, Benchmark is totally focused on delivering tests, assessments and reviews of products, systems and technologies. It has been designed solely for the needs of security installers, system integrators, specifiers, consultants and security managers involved in making buying decisions relating to products and systems. Benchmark is the fastest growing publication in the security market today!

About Ievo

Leveraging over a decade of biometric experience, Ievo develops biometric solutions for the access control market. Their background has driven them to consider all aspects of biometric installation in the design of their products, from the specification process and installation all the way through to the end user experience. The newest offering delivers a minimalist, reliable and fit-for-purpose solution that allows seamless integration and works alongside currently installed systems using card/fob/PINs, as opposed to looking to replace whole systems. Ievo ensures that the best sensor is used and all other components are of the highest quality possible, including the world’s leading algorithm. Coupled with its low cost, the Ievo solution takes biometrics into new markets that have previously withdrawn from or have not been suitable for biometrics due to the low quality of traditional products. Located in the United Kingdom, Ievo readers are currently available direct to trade customers in the UK and globally.

Exposec 2012

Events

Phil Scarfo entitled Stopping Thieves with Biometrics: If They Can’t Start It, They Can’t Steal It! In the article, Scarfo outlined the problem this way:

What if your heavy equipment was useless to a thief? What if it just doesn’t start up and the thief, no matter what he does, can’t get the equipment going?

That’s what multispectral biometrics can bring to the heavy equipment industry. To start up a unit, an authorized operator would first have to touch his finger to a biometric reader. If the person is authorized for that specific equipment, the unit starts up and can be operated. If not, it stands as still as a rock.

Other benefits of knowing who is operating heavy equipment include understanding use habits for safety and efficiency and providing an audit trail for insurers.

Scarfo went on to underscore how multispectral imaging has met the challenges of the heavy equipment industry by providing a rugged and reliable technology that supports user authentication applications in the field.

Click Methode Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: MEI), a global designer and manufacturer of electro-mechanical devices, announced today the Company has been nominated for the 2012 Telematics Newcomer Award for its industrial-grade biometric fingerprint sensor solution for motorized vehicles. Methode caught the attention of the telematics industry by leveraging Lumidigm’s Multi-Spectral Imaging biometric sensor into a truly capable solution for rugged telematics environments.

With the addition of biometric authentication, a telematics solution not only monitors the location and status of the vehicle equipment, but verifies the operator, a feature in demand by managers, owners and insurance providers. Methode’s ruggedized biometric sensor provides reliable and accurate biometric authentication of the vehicle in every condition — wet, dry, dirty, and bright sunlight.

Methode designed the sensor to withstand the extreme temperature conditions and heavy vibration often seen in vehicle environments. To fit in various applications, Methode added the ability of the sensor to communicate over CAN, LIN, and J-1939, standards used for communication and diagnostics among vehicle components.

“The reliable user authentication offered by Methode’s industrial-grade biometric fingerprint sensor solution offers many exciting possibilities for connected vehicles,” said Thomas Beshke, director of business development. “In the heavy equipment industry, it’s important to know who is communicating with headquarters, who is entering a controlled area, and who last used the equipment. In automotive, an OEM can contour and customize the driver’s experience in a way that could never be accomplished with just a keyfob. Methode’s utilization of Lumidigm’s reliable biometric authentication component brings successful implementation of all of these elements to an industrial-grade biometric sensor solution.”

The 2012 Telematics Newcomer Awards winners will be announced June 5 in Novi, Mich., during the 2012 <a
