Now Customers can Verify “Who” is Operating their Equipment
ALBUQUERQUE, NM — March 16, 2011 — Lumidigm announced that its multispectral imaging sensor, which provides biometric fingerprint authentication even in dry, wet or dirty conditions, will be showcased at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011 as part of a turnkey telematics solution. Lumidigm joint development partner Methode Electronics is including the industrial biometric fingerprint reader as part of the Rugged Telematics Alliance (RTA) Ecosystem.
One of the challenges in telematics is authenticating the equipment operator. The Lumidigm technology’s ability to work in dry, wet, and dirty conditions makes it the right fit for the for RTA system. “With the addition of Lumidigm- biometrics, the RTA system not only monitors the location and status of the equipment, but can now verify who is operating it, a feature that will provide piece of mind to managers, owners and insurance providers,” said Michael Rodenberg, Director of Business Development for Methode.
Operating a piece of heavy industry equipment creates wear and tear on the hands. This has prevented traditional fingerprint sensors from entering the market because of their inability to consistently acquire and verify the right fingerprint. Because the Lumidigm multispectral imaging sensors read the subsurface of the skin, fingers with abrasions or dirt can still be read, assuring that authorized drivers can get immediately to work.
“Dryness and dirt do not create problems for reliable reads with our multispectral imaging fingerprint sensors,” explains Phil Scarfo, Lumidigm Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. “Unlike conventional fingerprint sensors, our field-proven sensors have the only technology robust enough to stand up to the demanding requirements of the transportation industry. Using multiple wavelengths of light and advanced polarization techniques to extract unique fingerprint characteristics from both the surface and subsurface of the skin, Lumidigm’s sensors provide results that are more consistent, more inclusive and more tamper resistant than conventional biometric readers.
The research firm of Frost & Sullivan recently awarded the New Product Innovation of the Year Award, Fingerprint Biometrics, North America, 2010, to Lumidigm. According to Frost & Sullivan, Lumidigm’s “innovative technology allows Lumidigm fingerprint sensors to provide highly accurate biometric data even in adverse conditions where traditional fingerprint sensors fail.”
