Albuquerque, NM — September 26, 2006 — Lumdigm, Inc. of Albuquerque, NM, has been selected as one of the winners of the 2006 Tibbetts Awards. Dr. Matthew Ennis, Director of Business Development, received the award on behalf of Lumidigm today in Washington, D.C.
Named for Roland Tibbetts—the person acknowledged as the father of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program—these prestigious, national awards are made annually to those small firms, projects, organizations and individuals judged to exemplify the very best in SBIR achievement. Lumidigm is one of 55 companies in the U.S. to receive this award.
Congratulations to Lumidigm on being nominated to receive this prestigious award,” said Governor Richardson. “Providing advanced technology solutions is essential to success in today’s global market. Lumidigm is a great example of how companies here in New Mexico are able to provide business solutions for the 21st century and help move our economy forward.”
Lumidigm was nominated for the Tibbetts Award by Thomas J. Parisi of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Information Directorate’s Information Grid Division at the AFRL Rome Research Site. Lumidigm utilized Phase I and Phase II SBIR funds awarded from the Air Force to develop a convenient and secure biometric access control solution. Lumidigm’s resulting commercial J110 sensor — a multispectral sensor that collects identifying fingerprint information from both the surface and subsurface of the skin — is a radical departure from conventional optical fingerprint technology. The J110 is capable of distinguishing between real fingerprints on a live person and all known materials used to fool fingerprint sensors (spoofs).
Since its inception in 1995, SBTC (www.sbtc.org) has played a crucial role in promoting congressional legislation and federal regulations that aid small, technology-based companies—including re-authorization of the SBIR program.
